Pistol Review: HK USP Expert
Heckler & Koch have now developed one of the best target pistols in the world, the USP Expert. This amazing firearm is suitable for international competition such as in the IPSC (International Practical Shooting Competition) and all others alike. Developed with the help of several internationally successful competitors this new pistol delivers superior accuracy by combining the best features of the USP Match, USP45 Tactical, and the Mark 23 in calibers that include 9x19mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. The result is a target pistol that exceeds the requirements of the world elite.
The Expert has proven it's worth among European IPSC shooters, all thanks to its inherit accuracy due to a well-developed design with the cooperation of national and international renowned target shooters. The Expert features a hexagonal polygonal rifiling with a right hand twist rate of one turn in 250 mm. The polygonal rifling drastically helps with the overall performance of the barrel, providing a better gas seal, less barrel fouling, and barrel life. The cold-forged barrel made of high strength special steel also adds to the overall accuracy of the pistol making it one of the best in it's class.
The Expert also incorporates an ambidextrous safety that enhances performance where the shooter must engage targets with the weak hand. The extended slide release lever and an ambidextrous magazine release facilitate rapid magazine changes. Another neat feature is that the extractor also functions as a loaded-chamber indicator also increasing the overall safety of the pistol.
In terms of handling features, the USP Expert is balanced extremely well along with the long slide making it a remarkably stable platform. Between the match-grade trigger and its trigger stop, shooting this handgun provides an out-of-this-world experience compared to many premium out-of-the-box pistols. The Expert’s polymer frame, long and heavy slide, and the recoil reduction system make recoil a nonissue.
