Pistol Review: CZ USA's P-10F Competition

Most competition-oriented pistols start life on the range and eventually trickle down into the tactical and duty world. The CZ P-10 F Competition-Ready took the opposite route. Born from a polymer-framed, striker-fired service pistol, this gun was worked over with match-day intentions until it became something the original P-10 C probably never imagined it would be: a genuine contender at your local USPSA club match, right out of the box.

CZ and the P-10 Lineage

CZ (Ceska Zbrojovka) hardly needs an introduction to the handgun crowd. The company's steel-framed CZ 75 and its descendants have been fixtures in competition circles for decades, and their Shadow 2 is practically a religion among Production division shooters. The P-10 series, introduced in 2017, marked CZ's serious entry into the striker-fired polymer market, starting with the compact P-10 C and expanding to include the subcompact S and the full-size F. The Competition-Ready model sits at the top of the P-10 food chain, purpose-built to bridge the gap between a reliable service pistol and a tuned race gun.

What's in the Box (and on the Gun)

The P-10 F Competition-Ready is a 9mm, striker-fired, full-size pistol with a 5-inch cold hammer-forged barrel, a half inch longer than the standard P-10 F's 4.5-inch tube. That barrel wears a gold titanium nitride finish, and the chamber has been slightly widened to run reliably with a broader variety of ammunition, including the lighter competition loads that can sometimes choke pickier pistols.

The fiber-reinforced polymer frame carries the same ergonomic profile that earned the P-10 line its early praise: a grip angle reminiscent of the CZ 75, aggressive stippling on the front strap and backstrap, and three interchangeable backstraps for hand fitting. A generous beavertail keeps your grip high on the gun without punishing the web of your hand. Overall length comes in at 8.5 inches, with an empty weight of 30 ounces and a width of 1.26 inches. It ships with three 19-round magazines fitted with aluminum Henning Group baseplates, finished in gold to match the barrel and trigger.

The slide is nitride-coated and milled from the factory to accept mounting plates for popular micro red-dot optics, including the Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and several others. Plates are sold separately, which keeps the sticker price honest rather than bundling hardware you might not use. Iron sights consist of a fiber-optic front with a replaceable red rod and a serrated, drift-adjustable rear that provides a clean, high-contrast sight picture.

Where CZ really separated this model from the standard P-10 F is in the parts bin. The trigger is an HB Industries Theta unit, a flat-faced aluminum design that reportedly brings pull weight down to around 4.25 to 5 pounds with reduced pre-travel and a noticeably crisper break than the stock P-10 trigger. The magazine catch and slide stop are extended Apex Tactical pieces, and the rear slide cover plate is an Apex unit as well. These are all aftermarket upgrades that competition shooters typically handle on their own, so having them installed at the factory saves both time and a gunsmith visit.

On the Range

The Competition-Ready performs like you'd expect a well-sorted long slide to perform. The extra half inch of barrel and slide adds a touch of muzzle weight that helps settle the gun between shots, and the longer sight radius rewards precise shot placement at distance. Recoil is flat and predictable. The trigger, once you learn to prep through its initial take-up and find the wall, breaks cleanly with a fast, tactile reset. It handles much like a tuned Glock trigger but with a more defined break point and less mush in the pull.

The gun slots naturally into USPSA Production, Limited, or Carry Optics divisions. Throw a red dot on it, and you have a Carry Optics setup that requires very little additional work beyond maybe adding a flared magwell (the one common complaint among reviewers). For Production iron-sight shooters, the fiber-optic front is fast to pick up and tracks well under match conditions.

This is not a concealed carry gun. At 8.5 inches long with a full-size grip and 19-round capacity, it has no interest in hiding under a shirt. And the fiber-optic front sight, while excellent in daylight, is not an ideal choice for low-light defensive scenarios. The P-10 F Competition-Ready knows exactly what it is, and it does not apologize for being a range and match tool first.

What Makes It Stand Out

In a market that increasingly caters to competition shooters, the P-10 F Competition-Ready distinguishes itself by arriving genuinely close to match-ready without requiring a box of aftermarket parts. CZ selected well-regarded third-party components (HB Industries, Apex Tactical, Henning Group) rather than developing proprietary alternatives, which means replacement parts and further upgrades are widely available and well-supported. The optics-ready slide, three included magazines, and the overall ergonomic refinement of the P-10 platform add up to a package that respects the shooter's time and wallet.

The Verdict

The CZ P-10 F Competition-Ready is a focused, well-executed competition pistol that delivers a convincing out-of-the-box experience for action shooting disciplines. It won't replace a tuned Shadow 2 for the serious Production shooter chasing Grand Master, and it doesn't pretend to. But for the club-level competitor, the newer shooter stepping into organized matches, or the experienced hand who wants a reliable striker-fired option without spending a weekend at the workbench, this gun makes a strong case for itself. CZ took a solid service pistol, handed it to the right aftermarket partners, and built something that earns the "Competition-Ready" name without leaning on it as empty marketing. That's a harder trick to pull off than it sounds.
