Pistol Review: HK's VP9SK - Reliable, Accurate & Versatile!

In those twenty-five plus years we have seen quite literally hundreds striker-fire pistol variants pass through our shop and few have left the considerable mark that the VP9 and VP9SK have.

With over four years of German engineering invested in it, it's no wonder that the HK VP line is one of the best available handguns on the market today.
It's ergonomic design is truly exceptional, when handling it immediately fills all the empty spaces in your hand and feels like an extension of yourself. In a shooting, position the robust sights easily fall into an accurate line of fire. The sights themselves are luminous and durable unlike many striker-fired handguns today which come with cheap plastic “place holders” that require replacement.
One of my personal favorite features of the VP series is it's precision strike trigger which easily surpasses many custom triggers right out-of-the-box. The travel is short, followed by a solid, crisp break with minimal take-up and a quick reset that allows for rapid follow-up shots.
Now for the barrel, as always HK does not disappoint, using cold hammer forged barrels manufactured from cannon grade steel. This ensures that HK's barrels can withstand quite literally tens of thousands of rounds before requiring replacement. In fact in 2010, the barrels were put to the test and were able to fire over 90,000 rounds. Not only that, but the polygonal bore design contributes to both the long lifespan and an increase in muzzle velocity.
The VP9SK's steel slide is coated with HK's hostile environment finish further improving durability. It also features patented charging supports which are mounted on each side of the rear of the slide and heavily contribute to providing better grip for racking, speed reloading and overall assistance for those with reduced hand strength.
A small-scale model of the VP grip feature is implemented in the VP9SK which consists of interchangeable backstraps and lateral grip panels and allow the pistol to be easily modified to fit any individual user
Essentially, the VP9SK has all the sought-after features of it's older brother the VP9, packed into a more concealable package that easily allows it to double as both a home defense and carry handgun with minimal loss in ammunition capacity.
