Pistol Review: Sig Sauer's P320 X-FIVE

Straight from the box the P320 X-Five comes incorporated with all of the most important features to maximize accuracy, shootability, and modern ergonomics, all while maintaining the modularity of the standard P320 platform.

THE DESIGN

The P320 X-Five comes ready designed with the competition world in mind. 5-inch slide and bull barrel, Dawson fiber optic front sight, removable, flared mag well, a weight-reduced slide, and a configurable weighted back strap to help reduce felt recoil are among the many features the P320 X-Five features for competition use.

The frame of the pistol is a modular polymer and includes a rail for mounting the accessory desired. The X-Series grip features a deeper trigger guard undercut, a higher back strap and an extended beavertail to ensure a higher grip for better recoil management. It also comes standard with a removable grip weight insuring balance no matter the handler. Along with a removable magazine funnel and extended slide catch lever to help facilitate faster reloads.

The slide is lightened by three large ports in the top of the slide, and includes front cocking serrations which helps enhance the overall performance and sleek design of the pistol. The slide matches perfectly with the 5" bull barrel providing match-grade accuracy and comes equipped with Dawson Precision® Fiber Optic front and fully-adjustable rear sights. Additionally, the rear sight plate can be easily removed as a unit and replaced with a ROMEO1 optic. Overall, the P320 X-Five is optics-ready right out of the box.

THE TRIGGER

Like all X-Series P320s, the X-Five has the straight trigger that breaks at 90 degrees for an even better feeling pull. The standard P320 trigger comes crisper and cleaner than any other striker-fired pistol, without any aftermarket solutions. However, the trigger pull is measured at 6 lbs. which is higher than the expectations of some competition shooters. Nevertheless, it gets the job done every time. Take-up is very minimal and it breaks cleanly. There is no mechanical safety on this gun, which is acceptable in a competition environment. Both the slide release and magazine release are ambidextrous.

RATINGS

Reliability * * * *

When it comes to reliability is the standard P320 has had some issues, but with the new X-Five model those can be put to rest. Sig Sauer's proprietary modular system is something that the U.S. army decided to put at the side of their solider's. We can rest assured in the reliability of the P320 X-Five

Ergonomics: * * * * The P320 X-Five comes ready optics ready, a removable grip weight, etc. Amazing handling suited for the competition environment. However, the trigger is heavier than people would like it.

Customize This * * * * *

The built-in Picatinny rail holds add a variety of accessories; flashlight, lasers, etc. The removable rear sights can be fitted with an aftermarket solution, but Sig's ROMEO1 optic fits expectations for almost any shooter out there.

Overall Rating * * * *

For the straight from the box performance performance it provides. It does'nt get much better than the P320 X-Five.
